Three cheers for free food!

Yesterday I went to the PA Dutch Country FlavorFest with Amberrr and Alyssa for the afternoon. It was essentially a food and wine show to benefit the Central PA Food Bank. It cost an amazingly affordable $2.00 to get in and involved a huge variety of local goods to sample. I can't even remember all that I had, to be honest. I was a bleeping pig. Highlights included:
*The best dark orange chocolate I've ever had in my life
*Cajun shrimp pasta
*Amish barbeque sauce with apple butter in it
*Carrot ginger soup
*Spiced, warm red wine
*A piece of a raspberry tart
*The best strawberry jam in the world

By far, the weirdest thing was the Chilly Dilly ice cream -- chocolate chip ice cream with pickles in it. No lie. It must be the ultimate pregnancy food. I didn't eat the chunks of pickle because I believe in my heart that pickles are evil and vile things, but the ice cream did have an interesting tangy flavor to it. It was fun to try, but it's not something I'd eat a whole serving of. It's just too weird.

So yes, we had a lovely afternoon of strolling, eating, drinking, and drooling. It's a good thing I didn't have any cash on me (besides the $2.00) because I could have spent a fortune there. Next year I'll remember to take money along for Christmas gifts. I heard there are going to be more local restaurants involved next year. I can't wait!

Being downtown again really made me miss Lancaster. And my Jessica. Booo.
