Huzzah! Huzzah!
This morning I had an interview for a long-term sub position to cover for a teacher who's going on maternity leave in March. I was nice and relaxed for the interview -- partly because before my appointment I was chatting with a friendly girl who was applying for a music position, and partly because my interviewers went out of their way to make me feel welcome and comfortable. It was so nice, especially compared to the really awkward interview I had last month. I really appreciated that.
The questions they asked were difficult but fair. The interviewers looked through my portfolio as I was talking, and I was able to refer to items in it during a few of my answers. I think that's always impressive.
Apparently I did pretty well because three hours after my interview, the director of secondary education called to offer me the job! The same day I did the interview! I'm sooooo pumped. It won't start until March, but that will give me some time to get ready and to shadow the teacher before she leaves. The school is fairly far away, but my class schedule is sweet and the pay is more than I was expecting.
So starting next week, I should be able to work as a daily sub in a couple local districts. At the beginning of February, I'm going to start teaching a GED class two nights a week through the local community college. That will continue through the beginning of April, I believe. And then sometime in March, I'll start teaching 7th and 8th grade and finish out the year there!
I'm really happy about getting back into a routine. I feel like having a schedule helps prevent me from being depressed. I joined a gym earlier this week, and today I had an orientation to teach me how to use all the machines. So between teaching and going to the gym, I should be able to work out a pretty regular daily schedule. I'm quite happy about that.
I'm also way excited about Jess coming down this weekend! Yaaaaay!
